AEON has established a new analytical facility, with cutting-edge instrumentation, to serve as a national centre of excellence, to develop an African capacity for research, service, and training in Earth System science, engineering and technology, to reduce the reliance on first-world countries, and to re-direct the outflow of research and industry funds back to a world-class African Laboratory. The South African government, through the Innovation Fund of its Department of Science and Technology, awarded R23 million to AEON to buy analytical equipment for this national and African facility.
